Episode #3302 Folmsbee Garden
Duration: 5:58Source: iTunes
For this part of our tour we visit the garden of Bruce and Sarah Folmsbee near Davis. Sarah shows us around their garden and tells about the long winding stream they built in the front yard. It is made from local stone and features nice planting beds along its curves. A few plants we see along the stream include Speedwell (Veronica 'Sunny Border Blue') and Summer Snapdragon (Angelonia angustifolia) a former Oklahoma Proven selection. Sarah points out that she loves blue flowers and colorful foliage. This is evident by the Gizzard-leaf (Iresine herbstii) growing in one of the beds. Near one end of the stream garden is an area that Sarah says has always been difficult to grow things. It is quite shady and thick with tree roots. This problem was solved by creating a lush garden in containers. There are ferns in this area they have been growing for 15 years which were used in their daughter's wedding. The Folmsbee's have several vegetable gardens on their property. A patch of corn is utilized for fall decoration. In another bed is an enormous Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) surviving in the garden for 10 years. A showy native vine in the garden is the wild Potato Vine (Ipomoea pandurata).
