Eye on Health - Cancer
 Source: ClipSyndicate
Monday marks another year of building hope for those with cancer in northwest North Dakota. Perry Olson has a preview of the 'Women Building Hope' event in today's Eye on Health. (Perry Olson - KX News) It is an event that has helped countless people in area and it is back once again. It is 11th year of the 'Women Building Hope' cancer fundraiser put on by Trinity Health...something Chief of Staff at Trinity Dr. Kevin Collins has been a part of for almost all of it. (Dr. Kevin Collins - Trinity Health) This will be the 10th event that I have been a part of. The event does several things. One, it increases awareness about cancer and encourages people to get screened. Two, it has been a platform to hear from people who have fought cancer. And perhaps even more important than those reasons...it creates relationships that can help in the fight. (Dr. Kevin Collins) These support groups come together in a social setting and just provide camaraderie. It is a wonderful event. Thousands of dollars have been raised in the ten previous years that money has gone toward patient education, and even helped people in financial need get the treatments they need. (Dr. Kevin Collins) That money has been used locally to help support people with cancer and that is the other part of it. This year's event brings author, humorist, and cancer survivor, Christine Clifford Beckwith to Minot. And brings the message of how humor can help in the battle against cancer. (Dr. Kevin Collins) Humor, does several things. It increases sense of well-being. It increases tolerence to pain. Increases circulation and breathing so tissue is better oxygenated. We'll hear more about that next week With this week's Eye on Health, Perry Olson, KX News.
