It's a 16 million dollar project that will be a major draw for southwestern North Dakota. Whitney Stadium has been a center of activity for 36 years for area atheltes. But the outdated facility has structural problems and the goal is to demolish it this fall. Kevin:I think it's November 3rd after the last football game and so the next day hopefully they are in here ripping it apart and getting it going and then were looking at playing football in August of 2009 in the new Badlands Activity Center. Improvements to the new facility will include much more than a new football field. Kevin:We'll put a new all-purpose track and artificial turf, we'll have new seating, outdoor seating for about 23-25-hundred guests to attend a football game....new improved areas we'll have skyboxes in this area, we have 9 of those already spoken for. There will also be a new scoreboard, sound system, all purpose rooms for meetings, and locker rooms. The Badlands Activities Center will be home to DSU, Dickinson High, and Trinity. It's expected to have an economic impact of 6.5 million dollars per year. Thompson says 8 million dollars have been raised so far. He says that's the the half-way point of the project.
