Eye on Agriculture - Farmers' Share Meal
 Source: ClipSyndicate
(Bob Finken, North Dakota Farmers Union) That signifies the farmers share of the meal. It's an eye opening amount. That's what the North Dakota Farmers Union is hoping people who dined at the Farmers Share dinners, held across the state today, walked away with. 48 different sites were set up to serve food grown in North Dakota... (Lezlie Beuchler, Minot) Spaghetti, garlic toast, and ice cream. ...and the Farmers Union only charged what the farmers take from that meal was.... one solitary dollar. (Bob Finken, North Dakota Farmers Union) We definitely hoping that it's an eye opener to educate the consumer that it's really not the farmers fault that food prices are going up. Bob Finken, A member of the North Dakota Farmers Union and a farmer from Douglas says many people across the country including the national media are pointing to producers as the reason behind higher prices at the grocery store. Finken says the biggest increase is coming on the heals of higher energy prices. (Bob Finken, North Dakota Farmers Union) People are saying that bread is become a luxury item instead of a staple of food but even with the higher price of wheat it probably only raises a loaf of bread by ten cents, but a lot of the bakers have raised it by sixty cents and they blame it all on the farmer where a lot of it is on the increase on the price of petroleum products. Today's meal may have been cheap in the terms of the price. But the Farmers Union is hoping the value of the information people take with them is compounded into a wealth of understanding on the economics of food and where the money goes when you pay for a meal whether it's at a restaurant or at the kitchen table. (Lezlie Beuchler, Minot) I mean with the rising costs and everything I expected a little bit higher. With Your Eye On Agriculture, Shaun Sipma KX News.
