Bring Me To Life was the debut single for the band Evanescence off their multi-platinum debut album Fallen. True to Evanescence's style, the meaning of the song is hidden beneath somewhat cryptic writing. When the single was released the final track order of Fallen had not yet been chosen so although the single states Farther Away as an Album Version it never made it onto the album. Also The Bliss Mix is just the album version of Bring Me To Life minus Paul McCoy's vocals There were different versions such as promos and DVDs and versions with altered track orders. One of the most famous ones (viewed as a collectors item) is the first Australian pressing of the single. The fourth track was not the video version. Instead it was a B-Side called "Missing," that was later removed and released with the CD/DVD set Anywhere But Home. he music video for this song features Amy Lee in a night gown and barefoot, in her room inside a tall building in the city at nighttime while the band and Paul McCoy are playing on a higher floor of the building. She climbs out of the window of her room and begins to climb the building, passing many windows while venturing to the window that featured the room with the band and McCoy. Right before the bridge of the song featuring a duet with both McCoy and Lee, Lee ends up falling off the building but managing to hang on to the little ledge that she was standing on. McCoy pulls open the window and tries to save her, but doesn't manage to and she ends up falling off the building. At the very end of the video, we see Lee back in bed again: it was all a nightmare. This is symbolic because it features someone trying to find someone that will 'wake them up and save them'. Evanescence was founded by singer, pianist and songwriter Amy Lee and former lead guitarist and songwriter Ben Moody. The two met at a youth camp in Arkansas, where Moody heard Lee playing "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)" by Meat Loaf on the piano. The pair discovered they shared a love of Jimi Hendrix and Björk, and they began to write songs together (the first was "Solitude" by Amy Lee, followed by "Understanding" by Ben Moody, "Give Unto Me" by Amy Lee, and "My Immortal" by Ben Moody). The songs were altered lyrically and musically by Amy Lee, which is the reason for having the names of both of them in the credits for writing them. For some time they were unable to find other musicians to play with, and did not have the funds to pay for professional assistance, thus they were unable to play live shows. However, two songs of theirs, "Understanding" and "Give Unto Me", found their way onto local music charts, and demand for a live show increased. When the band finally made an appearance, they became one of the most popular acts in the area. They went through several names, including Childish Intentions and Stricken, before deciding on the name Evanescence (meaning to fade away or dissipate like vapor). Amy said she loves the name because it is mysterious and dark, and it puts a picture in your mind, which is what she wanted to do. [Info courtesy: wikipedia.org] (less)
