It's been four years since television audiences have seen Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda. Now they're back and bigger than ever as 'Sex and the City' takes to the big screen. Hundreds of young women thronged London's Leicester Square for the film's world premiere. Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays Carrie, said she was overwhelmed by the reception. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTRESS SARAH JESSICA PARKER SAYING: "I wouldn't expect this ever, regardless of what country we found ourselves in. This is really remarkable and thrilling." Those sentiments were shared by Kim Cattrall, aka Samantha: (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTRESS, KIM CATTRALL, SAYING: "You know, it's incredible, we went off the air four years ago and instead of our fan base shrinking, it's quadrupled. And all of these women coming out tonight to say hello, it's thrilling, it really is. I'm so excited." The film takes off four years on from where the hit series left the sassy singletons. Carrie is still working out of her Upper East Side apartment, but now she is a contributing editor to Vogue and is working on her fourth book. Charlotte is living out her dream on Park Avenue and Samantha has followed her actor boyfriend to Los Angeles. Miranda is still in Brooklyn, missing Manhattan, and is grappling with the demands of motherhood. Chris Noth is back as Carrie's love interest Mr. Big, and actress Candice Bergen also returns as Carrie's editor Enid Frick at Vogue. Cynthia Nixon said reprising her role as Miranda felt very natural. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTRESS, CYNTHIA NIXON, SAYING: "It feels great - it does feel like home. It feels like you go back to your home and it's been refurbished and it's even bigger and brighter and sunnier than before." But 'sunny' isn't how insiders who worked on the set describe the stars' relationship with one another: rumours of in-fighting and rows over money have persisted. Kristen Davis, who plays Charlotte, said she was fed-up of hearing the endless gossip that the four didn't get along in real life. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTRESS, KRISTIN DAVIS, SAYING: "We were not apart. We were only apart publicly, we weren't apart privately, so it's been great." 'Sex and the City: the Movie' premieres in London cinemas on May 28. Helen Long, Reuters
