Python eats golf balls
 Source: Mediascrape
Vets save a Carpet Python that swallowed golf balls it mistakenly thought were chicken's eggs. MOREINFO: The 80 centimetre-long snake munched the balls it found inside a chicken coop in the Australian state of New South Wales where they had been placed to encourage a broody hen to nest SCRIPT: This carpet python was left decidedly under par after he snuck into a chicken coop and downed four golf balls he thought were eggs. In fact the balls were placed in the hen house in New South Wales, Australia, to encourage a broody bird to nest. The snake gave the hearty meal his best shot, apparently not noticing the rock solid texture of the repast, its dimpled appearance, and makers' name. Vet Michael Pyne who removed the balls to save the snake says surgery was the only way. SOUNDBITE: Michael Pyne, Vet, saying (English): "Golf balls don't digest very well and as a result they became impacted in his bowel, his lower bowel, and they weren't going anywhere so when he came to us it was pretty clear the only way these golf balls were coming out was to cut them out surgically." The snake wound up at the vet's when the hen house owners discovered the golf balls had gone and the animal was less than energetic and clearly lumpy. The python is due to be released back into the wild once he's fully recovered from the gastronomic gaffe that could have cost him his life. Paul Chapman, Reuters
