As he's standing in line for water Michael is being peppered with questions by a wee lad in a somewhat annoying fashion. I've thought about dubbing him "Newbie 2.0," but he's neither new to SONA nor as annoying as Newbie. And though he may be wee, he's noticeably shorter than Wentworth Miller, he's nowhere near as wee as, say, SAM. He is quite young, so he shall be known as "Sparky." Hee-Sparky. So, Sparky's all blah blah q's about the U.S. and Michael Jordan. Michael interrupts to ask a question of his own: does he know a guy named Whistler? Sparky answers in the affirmative, everyone knows Whistler since he killed the son of Panama City's mayor. MBBM's Henchman starts shoving a guy for not paying up and as a result the water barrel is knocked over. That's gotta suck. Michael reads his note again and approaches Bellick, who's trying to drink out of a bone-dry tap. Michael gives him a little water in exchange for info on the note. Bellick points him in the direction of the sewers. So we head to said sewers, where Michael calls for Whistler, who plays hard to get until Michael threatens to leave and never come back. Whistler speaks up and warns Michael that if any con spots him, he's a dead man. New credits. We come back to Michael and Whistler, still chatting. The latter is saying he has no idea why They want him out and he's really just an innocent pawn. Michael doesn't really care, he's heard it all before. He tells Whistler to sit tight. Linc meets with JLOK who says she wants a daily report on Michael's progress. Linc asks, "Why us?" JLOK says that because of the political connection to Whistler's crime, They can't bribe his way out. Michael's all They got. Oh, Sucre's still alive and conscious. In fact, he looks downright mah-velous. Must be the water in Fox River. Think about it: Michael had two toes chopped off and was walking around mere hours later, Linc was shot in the thigh, Abruzzi's neck was slit, T-Bag's hand was chopped off and his wrist was stabbed. Yeah, that Fox River water has magical healing properties, too bad Westmoreland (sniff!) didn't drink more of it. Anyway, Sucre buys a gun. SONA. One of the inmates is trying to rile up the others. He's not happy about the whole water-spillage thing. Michael strides right past Bellick who asks about the loony in the sewers. Michael tells him to keep his voice down and has to promise to get food, water and clothing to buy Bellick's silence. Convict CrankyPants Mahone is talking to Sparky who informs him that whoever kills Whistler gets a ticket outta SONA. Inner fence. Bellick hobbles out to see Sucre, who pulls a gun. Bellick blubbers that he never touched Maricruz, he threatened her and Sucre's aunt with arrest since they were aiding Sucre and they took off. Before she left, Bellick grabbed Maricruz's necklace. Now that he's come clean (in a manner of speaking), Bellick asks Sucre to call MamaBellick for him, but Sucre just walks away. Mahone ventures into the sewers. He's about to leave when Whistler makes a noise. Mahone's hunting instincts kick in. Michael meets Linc at the inner fence and says he's made contact with Whistler. He gives Linc the note and asks for money. Linc passes him a roll of bills. Michael promises to break Whistler out or die trying and if it's the latter, that oughtta count for something in regards to Doc and L.J.'s safety. Back to the sewers, Mahone calls to Whistler, saying he's not safe. Mahone really needs to work on his coaxing abilities, 'cuz his way of trying to convince Whistler to trust him is to start breaking through the wall with a pipe. Linc runs into Sucre who is all smiles since he found out Maricruz is safe and back in Chicago. Linc tells him about Michael's situation and says they could use some help. From Sucre? Seriously? O-kay. Sucre says he can't, he's going to meet Maricruz. Linc points out that Sucre's still a wanted man and it'd probably be best if Sucre just stayed away from Maricruz. Sucre doesn't change his mind and Linc tells him where he's staying, just in case. After Sucre boards the bus, Linc notices an ad for the Banco de Versailles. Hmm, lightbulb! MBBM is a tad pissed about the whole water thing. He chews out Henchman who doesn't seem to care. "They'll live," he says nonchalantly. MBBM calls in T-Bag, gives him a gallon jug of water and sends him downstairs. As T-Bag makes his way through the halls, he runs into Bellick. He hisses at the underweared-one to get, saying he's "untouchable status." I'll say, take a look at those drawers. Anyhoo, Bellick mumbles that he's got info for MBBM and T-Bag's interest is aroused. Mahone continues to break through the wall. T-Bag brings Bellick to MBBM, who is less than pleased to find the shovel-headed one in his living quarters. Bellick spills about the guy in the sewers and MBBM asks if he's an Aussie. Michael goes back to Sparky and we find that although he's only seventeen, he's been in SONA for a few years. Tough break. Michael then sees a few guys heading for the sewers and is most chagrined to spot a fully clothes Bellick, stuffing his face. I don't know, Michael, Bellick's a lot easier to take when he's dressed. Mahone pulls Whistler through the hole in the wall. Whistler protests that he's got a family. "So do I," Mahone coolly responds. A few guys, along with Michael, come upon Mahone and Whistler and Mahone uses his pipe to hold the others at bay as we go to commercials. After commercials, Michael tries to talk Mahone down, saying he'll testify for him, whatever it takes. Has that ever worked on Mahone? He doesn't bite, but Whistler manages to free himself and skedaddles. Mahone gives chase. So Michael barges into MBBM's quarters and asks for the bounty to be taken off of Whistler. MBBM says that while he has five consecutive life terms, he won't deny another man's shot at freedome. So how's that work? The Kill-Whistler-And-Gain-Freedom deal only applies to people who aren't serving life sentences? I thought the deal with SONA was that everyone was in there until death. Whatevs. Michael asks MBBM to just trust him and MBBM calls forward his lapdog. He asks T-Bag if Michael can be trusted and T-Bag likens Michael to a snake, one that would stab you in the back. Michael then asks for two minutes (is that all it takes?), but MBBM is distracted by the rocks being thrown through his window. So Michael hustles out, finds Sparky and gives him money in exchange for booze. Banco de Versailles. Widow is there and her name is Sofia. Fine, I'll go with that. Seems she's Whistler's girlfriend and she's a signatory on his safe deposit box. Why looky here! It's Linc and they say he's only kept around for his looks. Sewers. Mahone catches Whistler and they wrestle. Michael gets the booze from Sparky, then requests plastic bags. Sofia opens the box and puts the package in her purse. Linc follows her out of the bank and approaches her. He tells her to "lose the whole grieving widow thing." She tries to walk away, but he grabs her purse and pulls out a...bird book, as in a book about birds. Let's ponder that, shall we? Okay, done pondering? Right. So Sofia says that Whistler is just a fisherman. Linc scoffs and tells her to tell Whistler that Scofield's brother has the book. "Why won't you people just leave him alone?" She yells. Linc gets in her face, yelling back, "You think we want to be forced into this? You think we want to be here lady?" Sofia seems genuinely confused. Linc stalks away (hotly). Uh-oh, sweaty man Pike is observing from his car. Now that Michael has his materials, he proceeds to McGyver a bucket. Mahone's dragging Whistler through the sewers. The crowd's still tossing rocks. Henchman's solution is to start cutting throats. I bet he's a blast at parties. MBBM puts in a call to a perimeter guard (hee-perimeter) for more water. Day after tomorrow is not the same as "Now!" Michael continues to do his "I am a genius structural engineer" thing. As he unsuccessfully tries to light a match, Mahone pulls Whistler into the Yard. Michael finally succeeds in lighting the match as Henchman spots the scene in the Yard and informs MBBM, "They got Whistler." We return from commercials to find Mahone is still wielding his big pipe (dirty!). MBBM enters the Yard and the lead rioter hassles him. "You can't deliver, Lechero. You're done here." Then BOOM! The ground trembles and water bursts out of the taps. Rejoice! Mahone is not happy, though since MBBM says Whistler's in the clear. Sucre calls Maricruz and says he can't put her and the baby in danger. I love you, tears, blah blah. JLOK is pissed about Linc confronting Sofia. She says she knew Michael got the brains, but she didn't think Linc was completely stupid. Remember the pretty, Jodi! She pulls a gun and orders him to hand over whatever it is he took from Sofia. He gives her the book. Before she departs she tells him to stay away from Sofia. Once she's gone, he pulls out the original bird book out of another pocket. See, he can think for himself, it just takes him a little longer. The lead rioter is brought to MBBM and it's not to play. Do I have to spell it out? Whistler thanks Michael. "So how we getting out of here?" "I have no idea." C'mon, Michael! Where's that trademark optimism/denial that's been there since the beginning?
