7/04/08: Mets at Phillies
Duration: 123:35Source: iTunes
July 4th, 2008: New York Mets 2 at Philadelphia Phillies 3 F -- Standing alone at home plate, Shane Victorino gently brushed the batter's box dirt to pass the time, as the Mets discussed whether to pitch to him with first base open and the potential winning run on second. Victorino saw lefty Pedro Feliciano throwing in the Mets' bullpen, and thought he might be forced to bat right-handed, since his average is nearly 65 points lower from that side. Or perhaps Duaner Sanchez would pitch carefully with the open base and hope Victorino would get himself out. The Mets and Sanchez chose that course, and it nearly worked. The free-swinging Victorino swung and missed at a changeup, then took a fastball high. He fouled off another fastball before slicing a single to right field that lifted the Phillies to a 3-2 win over their division rivals.
