Hello. I'm Kristin Volk with a UPI Headline Update on this Tuesday, April 10, 2007. Iran is vowing to greatly expand its nuclear program. A government official says the country plans to install 50 thousand centrifuges, which are devices used in the process of enriching uranium. The government says another announcement will be made in the coming days about Iran's plans to construct two 1,000-megawatt power plants. This announcement comes a day after Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the country has stepped up its nuclear fuel production to an industrial level. The White House is accused of using unofficial e-mail accounts to talk about government business. CNN reports congressional investigators found communication about official matters like the firings of U.S. attorneys in e-mails not part of the White House communication system. Some lawmakers say the outside e-mails are subject to the Presidential Records Act, which requires preservation of all official records about the President. A White House spokesman defended the use of the accounts saying it's a way to separate official business from political campaign work. Israeli forces have arrested 19 Hamas members in an alleged terror plot. The group reportedly drove a car packed with 220 pounds of explosives into Tel Aviv on Passover, but didn't carry out the attack. The potential suicide bomber returned to the West Bank where the car exploded. Investigators say Hamas has been planning several attacks in Israel, and this discovery shows how the group's attacks are escalating. The Chinese government says its expresses great regret and strong dissatisfaction against the U.S. for complaints it filed today at the World Trade Organization. The U.S. filed two trade complaints against China over piracy of American books, movies, music and videos. A U.S. trade representative says piracy in that country is costing U.S. firms and workers billions of dollars each year. A Chinese government says this action seriously undermines future trade and economic relations between the two countries. For more on these stories and all of the day's news, check out upi.com.
