Golden Compass world premiere
 Source: Mediascrape
Actors Nicole Kidman, Eva Green, Daniel Craig and Dakota Blue Richards attend the world premiere of 'The Golden Compass'. MOREINFO: The story is set in a world where witches rule the northern skies, ice bears are the bravest warriors and where every human is joined by an animal spirit representing their soul. But the film has already come under attack from conservative Christian groups for portraying religion in an unflattering light. SCRIPT: Central London dazzled with stars at the premiere of New Line's latest fantasy film, the Golden Compass. Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Eva Green and newcomer Dakota Blue Richards delighted fans in Leicester Square. British-born Richards beat out 10,000 girls to play the lead of Lyra in the $180 million adaptation of Philip Pullman's novel Northern Lights. (SOUNDBITE) (English) DAKOTA BLUE RICHARDS, ACTRESS, SAYING: "It is the most amazing feeling I think I have ever experienced in my life. I don't think the feeling of getting the part could beat this.." The film is laden with computerized special effects including talking polar bears, warring witches and animal "daemons" that represent each human's soul. And the film's actors had their own ideas of what their real life daemon would be. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTRESS NICOLE KIDMAN, SAYING: "A kitten. (reporter asks why) I like the idea of something soft." (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTOR DANIEL CRAIG, SAYING: "A snow leopard because that's what I've got in the film. I'm very happy with it." (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTRESS EVA GREEN, SAYING: "A frog maybe because I'm French." Director and screenplay writer Chris Weitz said more money was riding on this movie for New Line than even its previous blockbuster "Lord of the Rings". But the film has already been dogged by controversy. Conservative Christians in the United States have called for moviegoers to boycott the film, saying that it portrays the Church in an unflattering light. Weitz says you can't please everyone. (SOUNDBITE) (English) DIRECTOR CHRIS WEITZ, SAYING "We kind of get it on both sides , both people on the far right who are worried that we are peddling atheism, and then people who are fans of the book but only of its religious elements and who think that we are watering down the theological content of the books. I think that neither is the case." Either way, author Philip Pullman said he was happy for all the attention the controversy was giving the film. Stefanie McIntyre, Reuters
