Benazir Bhutto's last moments
Benazir Bhutto's last moments - captured on camera. As the Pakistani opposition leader waves to the crowd three shots are fired. They didn't kill her but seconds later there was a massive blast. (SOUNDBITE) (English) PAKISTAN INTERIOR MINISTRY SPOKESMAN JAVED IQBAL CHEEMA SAYING: "When these shots were fired and the suicide bomber exploded himself, with that pressure of the shock wave, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto fell down and tried to tuck down into the vehicle. When she was tucking down and was thrown by the force of that shock wave of the explosion, unfortunately, one of the levers hit her, which caused a fracture in her skull and unfortunately that became the cause of her death" At least 17 others were also killed in the attack which the government now claims was carried out by al Qaeda. (SOUNDBITE) (English) PAKISTAN INTERIOR MINISTRY SPOKESMAN JAVED IQBAL CHEEMA SAYING: "We have intelligence intercepts indicating that al Qaeda leader Baitullah Mehsud is behind her assassination. We just had an intelligence intercept that was recorded this morning in which Baitullah Mehsud has congratulated his people for carrying out this cowardly act" Mehsud - one of Pakistan's most wanted militant leaders - is also said to be behind a blast in October which left 140 people dead. The bomb was detonated just hours after Bhutto returned to Pakistan from exile. He is an obvious suspect and there are those who have other ideas about the culprits. A lot of anger has been directed at President Pervez Musharraf. At least 31 people have been killed in violence since the assassination. Many are now calling for him to stand down.
