an extra special charity match drew a crowd of almost 36-thousand to rio's famous maracana stadium on thursday. the star of the show - arthur antunes coimbra, better known as zico. now 54 and coaching in turkey, he was an inspirational player in the brazil side of the late 70s and early 80s, often referred to as the white pele. he also holds the record for the most goals at this ground thanks to a 12-year career with flamengo, either side of a two-year spell in italy. barcelona midfielder deco, inter milan striker adriano and japan international hidetoshi nakata were among those who took to the field for a world team. their opponents? a flamengo side from 1987, complete with zico in his former colours. the result went flamengo's way by eight goals to five, with the man who made the game happen twice getting on the scoresheet. at the finish, nakata paid tribute to zico for helping to take japan to last year's world cup finals, after four years as national coach. soundbite (english) "nice guy, i mean, i respect him as a person and as a coach. he brought real football to japan. for japanese football he's really important." supercaption: hidetoshi nakata unfortunately, fifa women's player of the year marta and ac milan's clarence seedorf were unable to attend the match. but that wasn't enough to spoil the occasion for one of brazil's favourite football sons.
