Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was greeted like a rock star by hundreds of screaming and excited supporters a town hall meeting in downtown Medford, Oregon on Saturday (March 22) . Obama spoke to the enthusiastic crowd about education, the economy, immigration, race, health care and national security. He also focused on the war in Iraq and defended his position on why and how he would withdraw U.S. troops from the volatile Middle Eastern country. "I opposed this war in 2002 I will end this war in 2009," Obama said. "It won't be easy.... We are going to have to be careful getting out as we were careless getting in. But we can get one or two combat brigades out per month, and that pace we can have our combat troops out in 16 months. That's not a precipitous withdrawal. This war has lasted 5 years, longer than world war one, world war two and the civil war. 16 months from the time I take office that's 2 years away. It will have been 7 years. If we cannot get the Iraq government to get its act together in 7 years, we won't get them to get their act together in 14 years, or 21 years or 28 years or 35 years," Obama added. A roadside bomb killed three U.S. soldiers in Iraq Saturday (March 22), pushing the U.S. death toll closer to the 4,000 mark at the start of the sixth year of the war for U.S. troops. The deaths have brought the number of U.S. soldiers killed since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003 to 3,996. The war is a major issue in the U.S. presidentia...
