Clinton wins crucial primaries
In a night that could reshape the race for the Democratic nomination, Senator Hillary Clinton surprised many observers in winning primaries by wide margins in Rhode Island and Ohio and narrowly beating Barack Obama in Texas, according to US network projections. By beating Obama in three out of four Democratic Primaries-- Clinton stopped Obama's 12 state winning streak and gave a much-needed boost to her campaign. For his part, Obama easily won the Northeast state of Vermont. A clearly elated Clinton addressed supporters in Ohio. SOUNDBITE: Hillary Clinton, presidential candidate, saying (English): "You know what they say - as Ohio goes, so goes the nation. Well this nation's coming back and so is this campaign." Clinton's victories in Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island came despite being outspent by Obama by 2 to 1 in all three states. SOUNDBITE: Barack Obama, presidential candidate, saying (English): "No matter what happens tonight, we have nearly the same delegate lead as we did this morning and we are on our way to winning this nomination." Looming for both White House hopefuls is the Pennsylvania primary in seven weeks. While Republicans have settled on their presidential nominee - Arizona Senator John McCain - the fight for the Democratic nomination continues. Jon Decker, Reuters.
