A Michigan State Police trooper is recovering from injuries he suffered in an accident Saturday night. Trooper Scott Wilber was outside his patrol car dealing with a crash on a slippery I-96 in Walker. He had just started toward a man who had parked behind the patrol car to ask him to pull ahead when a pickup truck skidded on black ice and slammed into the patrol car on the roadside. Trooper Wilber dove for cover but was hit and thrown over his vehicle. The incident was caught on the cruiser's dashboard camera. "All I could see was the Dodge emblem on the front on the pickup truck I was just fixated on that," Wilber said. "The first thought going through my mind was I'm not going to see my boys again. And the second thought was that I was going to get crushed between the car and the truck. The next thing I knew I was moving but I had no control of my body. In my mind I was thinking, 'He probably hit the car, and the car bumped me, and that's all that happened. But after watching the video. ...That saying you hear 'life flash before your eyes.' I understand it now." Trooper Wilber suffered many bruises along the right side of body and on his hip. He will likely be back on the job in a few weeks.
