HIFU, high intensity focused ultrasound, is known as a novel cancer treatment technology by which an ultrasound beam can be directed to a tight focus in tissue where the temperature can be enhanced to over 60 degree centigrade in seconds to cook the tissue. Tissue sonicated by HIFU becomes coagulative necrosis and vascularities were eliminated leading to denaturation of cancer cells. This technology was developed in Chongqing China in 1997 and applied to treat over 10000 patients worldwide.
