Mandy Moore would make American Idol judge Simon Cowell proud. She stars in American Dreamz, a spoof on TV’s popular singing competition as Sally Kendoo an Idol wannabe who would do whatever it takes to become America’s next pop princess. Moore was an inspired choice for the role as she began her career as a chart-topping singer, except she says her character’s songs in the film were a bit cheesier than the ones she recorded. “Going into the studio and recording the songs as Sally was a little bit different. I think mostly because I wouldn’t be recording these sorts of songs for a record of my own. But I feel like there’s almost maybe stylistically a different way to kind of approach the songs on the show than I would maybe for my own stuff. She’s like a bit more stylized and like trying a bit more harder to do those cheesy riffs and stuff which isn’t really me. It was kind of fun, it was really fun.” In Mandy’s heyday as a teenage pop star she released her first CD So Real and toured with The Backstreet Boys.
