Article Two, Clause Five of the United States Constitution states:"No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."The Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution defines a natural born citizen as one "born or naturalized in the United States". John McCain was neither born nor naturalized in the United States. He was not born in the United Sattes, and because both his parents were U.S. citizens, he had citizenship from birth, and did not need to undergo the naturalization process in order to gain citizenship.The State Department has ruled:"Despite widespread popular belief, U.S. military installations abroad and U.S. diplomatic or consular facilities are not part of the United States within the meaning of the 14th Amendment."John McCain was born at a U.S. military installation in the Panama Canal Zone. According to the State Department, this military installation is not part of the United States, and therefore John McCain is not a natural born citizen. This means that according to Article Two, Clause Five of the United States Constitution, it is impossible for McCain to become President. He is, quite literally, the doomed candidate.Of course, the Neoconservative wing of the Republican Party is known for not following the Constitution. George W. Bush - who lost the election but still became President - violated the Constitution multiple times, committing acts of war without a declaration of war, restricting freedom of speech with the Patriot Act, and illegally suspending habeas corpus, imprisoning anyone he wants without a trial. Even Saddam Hussein, who everyone knew was one of the most evil men alive, was given the dignity of a fair trial. But under the Patriot Act, the government can imprison anyone merely suspected of terrorism without a trial. Another violation of the Constitution.Ever since the Neoconservatives took over, the Republican Party has been rapidly deteriorating in numbers, popular support, and adherence to the law. The Republican Party is now in shambles. If the Republican Party is going to survive the next century, we need a President who will restore some credibility to the Party, not someone who will merely continue Bush's legacy (see here: http://thinkprogress.org/wp-content/u... )McCain lied about the Iraq War ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioy90n... ). McCain lied about his service in the Vietnam War ( http://www.vietnamveteransagainstjohn... ). And now, McCain is trying to run for President, even though the Constitution clearly prohibits him from doing so.This man should step down from the race immediately. Even if he does somehow win the Presidency, patriots and true constitutionalists will not be silent on this issue. They will take this to the Supreme Court, and McCain will be impeached. McCain is setting himself up for a political disaster. Perhaps if he quits the race now, he could at least leave his political career with some scrap of dignity.Well, on second thought, maybe things aren't all that bad for McCain.
