Michael Phelps is still coming to terms with becoming the first Olympic competitor to win eight gold medals at one games. The US swimming hero broke compatriot Mark Spitz's seven gold tally at the weekend when the 4x100 medley relay team took the gold in the Water Cube. On Tuesday (August 19) Phelps was the star attraction at a barbecue hosted by one of his sponsors in a Beijing park although one of his team mates described him as occasionally annoying. Natalie Coughlin, who won gold in the women's 100-metres backstroke, said: "As a person, he reminds me of a little brother more than anything. He is normal, like every other kid, can be annoying, but can be a really great guy at the same time. He's like that little brother I've never had." Ryan Lochte, who won gold in the 200 metres backstroke and the 4x200 metres freestyle plus bronze medals in the 400m individual medley and the 200m individual medley, revealed the swimmers talk about anything but their sport. "Anything... music, what we are going to do after the Games. Just anything but swimming," he said ., I mean, basically, like shoes, clothes.. . it doesn't matter," said Lochte, who won two golds in the 200-metres backstroke and the 4X200-metres freestyle relay, adding that both Phelps and he like to listen to hip-hop music. As for Phelps himself, he says he still cannot fully believe what is going on around him. "I don't think it's fully sunken yet now. I think over the next few days, few weeks, few months and few years, it'll really fully sink in, and I have no idea what I'm going to do and what it's going to feel like."
