N Korea nuke sanctions lifted
Bush, speaking to reporters at the White House on Thursday morning (26 June, 2008), confirmed that the U.S. would respond to North Korea's actions by lifting sanctions under the 'Trading with the Enemy Act' and would rescind the designation by the U.S. as a 'state sponsor of terror' in 45 days. The president also said the U.S. remained worried about North Korean uranium stock and reiterated his government's position that the country must dismantle all nuclear facilities. His words follow confirmation from China that North Korea had handed over a long-delayed account of its nuclear activities in line the multi-step process laid out in the Six Party Talks between North Korea, China, Japan, Russia, South Korean and the United Nations. North Korea has pledged to disable all its nuclear facilities and on Friday (27 June, 2008) will destroy the cooling tower of the Yongbyon reactor.
