12/19/06 Former FIU professor Carlos Alvarez and his wife, Elsa, accused of spying for Fidel Castro pleaded guilty to lesser charges today in federal court. Carlos Alvarez pleaded guilty to conspiracy to become an unregistered foreign agent. Elsa Alvarez admitted knowing about her husband's illegal activities but not reporting them.
