News segment from New Tang Dynasty TV (NTDTV) for October 9, 2007: South Koreans Protest Burma Junta and China Involvement Burmese and South Korean protesters are taking a stand. Gathering in front of Seoul's Chinese embassy, they condemn Burma's military regime and its recent violent suppression of pro-democracy protesters. Theyre also speaking out against the Chinese Communist Party's support for Burma's military junta. Dozens of Burma protesters held up placards with various slogans, chanting anti-military government slogans and demanding the immediate resignation of the junta. Zaw Moe Aung, National League for Democracy Korean Branch: "We are urging China not to support the Burmese military dictator, but to support Burmese democratization and not to object the resolution by the U.N. Security Council." Seoul's protesters, holding up anti-2008 Beijing Olympics pickets, also called for a boycott of the Beijing Olympics in 2008. This reflects the view that regional powerhouse China should be exerting more pressure on the junta. Burma's ruling junta has come under international pressure. But, China and the United States clashed over whether the international community should take any action on issue through the U.N. Security Council. Burmese junta soldiers opened fire on the streets of the capital Rangoon, as thousands of Buddhist monks and civilians demanded democracy, in the biggest protests in the country in 20 years.
