The federal government has granted $35 million dollars to the development of a new cardiac center to be built in Hamilton, Ontario. Prime Minister Stephen Harper says that the new facility will appeal to researchers and other to the city. And plans to make the city of Hamilton a known name in the research of cardiovascular disease, The creation of the new building is expected to cost more than $91 million dollars. The initial seed funding is coming from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, while the rest of the financial backing will come from general fundraising and other organizations. Harper says that the new facility will created 230 new jobs in the area, and house over 500 researchers. The new center is expected to open in 2009.
