THE ART OF ACID HOUSE Twenty years ago acid house and a new drug arrived in Britain's clubs to incite the biggest revolution in youth culture since the Sixties' summer of love. The Art of Acid House is a celebration of the hugely influential early acid house scene featuring some of most iconic club art and photography from a pivotal time in modern British (and world) youth culture, that still resonates today. 1988 saw the explosion of the Acid House scene onto the national consciousness. A diverse musical movement influenced by American house music and the Balearic styles, attitude and vibe bought home by a small group of DJ's and club promoters (including Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling , Nicky Holloway, Ian St Paul and Johnny Walker) from their summer holidays in Ibiza. The emergence of Ecstasy/MDMA as the drug of choice of the late eighties club crowd proved to be a hedonistic brew, considered "the punk of its time", that dominated the headlines, influenced fashion, music, art, and youth culture and still influences today. The club + party artwork (along with one or two record covers) celebrates this early period until the end of 1988, and includes all of the important, defining club nights including Shoom, Spectrum, Future The Trip and Boys Own. Signed limited edition prints by the likes of artists Dave Little (Spectrum, Boys Own) and George Georgiou who is credited with introducing the smiley face to the scene when he used it on the first Shoom flyer. There will be a photographic element and original pieces of art from the time, one of which is the hand painted (using airbrush) original of the Balearics Beats album cover. the hedonism , the clubs , the music , the people , the pills ..loads of hugs and kisses ... smiley t-shirts and happy faces.... feeling saucey instead of sauced......eating fruits on the dance floor....bashed up converse trainers.....lovely girls with blinding accents.....ice pops.....hedionism....sparklers at the future....indian belly dancers at the shoom....almost everyone finally realising that "only love can conquer hate"....watching the sun set at the café del mar....watching the sun rise on primrose hill....the karma collective....poncho's pony tails and body paint....dj alfredo....new friendships....loads more hugs and kisses....letting the warm anglo-ibizan club culture rush over you, dancing to car alarms outside spectrum , enjoy it mateys!!!
