This is the Northern Rail cattle train Rochdale to Manchester 7.35am from (Leeds) Rochdale to Manchester on the 21st of May 2008. Yet again we are crowded in to the carriages like cattle. And the government is thinking of giving money to pay for a tram service on this line. What a waste of money when they could spend the cash on buying a few more carriages which would ease the problems soooooooooooo much. To make matters worst on my way home one of Northern Rail trains broke down and we were stuck on the train for an extra half hour. Does anyone have the slightest idea what it would be like trapped in a train that is over crowded when the train breaks down??? Certainly those fat middle class bar stewards who run Northern rail or any other of the rail companies do not know, since most of them probably drive to work. Isn't it time that the rail net work was nationalised and the shares bought up at only a tenth of the market value since the shareholders are just as much to blame for the appalling situation. By the way I'm not a socialist just want the transport system run properly instead of the profits being creamed off while the commuters are faced with the consequences. This is a regular occurrence and everyone asks "why the hell they can't just add another two carriages to the train", which ironically they can do at 9.30am the same day when there are about ten people on the train. Is it too much to ask for a seat on the train when travelling? The local transport authority....if it exists...wants to spend millions of pounds putting in a tram service along the same tracks when a simpler more effective thing to do would be just to buy some more carriages so that there are always four train carriages to a train. This is essential in the rush hour. Who the hell decided that there should always be only two carriages to a train anyway??? If you feel as annoyed as me please feel free to put you video footage on line and help to demand the "Right to a Seat" and the passing of a bill in Parliament for a "Four Carriages to a Train Minimum" legislation. The fat cats who run Rail Track and the Train companies are putting lives at risk by overcrowded trains and should in the event of a crash be faced with manslaughter charges, as having too many people on a train makes it impossible to evacuate the train in an emergency. So health and safety is compromised because train companies put profit and shareholders before safety. More carriages are needed urgently. It's about time the transport authorities stopped treating passengers like cattle and realise that we are people and we would like to travel in style and comfort.
