My name is Harold "Nuke" Goswick. I went to Escondido High School and graduated in 1949. I lived in Valley Center, born and raised in Valley Center Ca. and came down from there to go to school in Escondido. I always call it that I'm from Escondido because that's where I was all the time. One of the main things I did during sports was during my softball days. I use to practice in Valley Center. I had an old tank, a tire, old springs, and a bucket. And a guy by the name of Steve Thompson started showing me how to pitch when I was 6 years old. But then when I got 9 years old we came to Escondido to play night ball, for the night ball association. So I started playing when I was 9 years old, in the senior league. And then when I was 12 years old I got to pitch on the softball teams. And as I grew older, I played for the Escondido Elks. Then we played for 12 years and we won the championship. And I played for the Emanual Faith team, and we played for years. But I got all kinds of experience with no hitters and I had 4 perfect games. It was just great. It was one of the greatest things in my life, I just loved to play softball. Softball was so important to me, well for one thing thats all we had in Escondido at that time. You could come down to the field and if the game was going to start at 5:00 and you didn't get there at 5:00, you didn't get a seat, there was like 1000 people at these games. A lot of times we would have movie actresses from Hollywood that would come down and they would sit on one side for half the game and sit on the other side the other half of the game. We had many great pitchers come there like Les Haney and the King and his Court. The sweater that I have on is one that you get and to get the stripes is if you make your letter. Every year if you made your letter in the sport you were in than you got another stripe. I had lettered every year that I was in school but I didn't like to have 4 stripes on my arm because I didn't think it looked good, thre...
