It’s a school featuring the very latest technology. Reporter Tracy Fugere shows us the latest updates on the new Mandan Middle School... I'd like to welcome you to the new Mandan Middle School2901 12th Street NW, Mandan. The 110-thousand-square-foot school is designed to hold over a thousand students. (Joe Lukach, MPS Business Manager) Many of the areas and especially the area we're standing in now the front commons area and so on...we built this school with anticipation of growth in Mandan. And growth, as well as the fact that someday will have our sixth grade class in this structure as well. There will be no chalkboards in this 14-point-three million dollar middle school. Each classroom features interactive technology display boards. (Joe Lukach, MPS Business Manager) We can actually go up and touch it and move from web site to web site. We can write on it. We can save it as a worksheet. Anything we can do to make learning more than a text book. (Jamie Levingston, Technology Coordinator) The entire school will be wireless. With that said, all of our instructors will have laptops. We do utilize Power School in our district, which enables our teachers to grade and reach parents online through a parent portal. The classrooms will even have something that's been proven to enhance test scores...and that's enhanced sound. Four high-tech speakers will be placed in each room. (Jamie Levingston, Technology Coordinator) ...not have to speak loud to get to the students in the back of the room. It allows our instructors to speak at normal tones and the student in the back of the room hears a normal voice from the instructor. The school features a cafetorium...a cafeteria by day...auditorium by night. There's a band room with surround sound. And teachers will have more space...
