Hachikô ハチ公, uno splendido esemplare di Akita Inu, era un cucciolo quando venne regalato al professor Ueno. Luomo ogni mattina prendeva il convoglio che passava dalla stazione di Shibuya 渋谷駅 e che lo avrebbe portato a Tokyo. Hachikô prese labitudine di accompagnarlo e di aspettarne, a sera, il rientro davanti alla stazione. Due anni dopo il professore venne stroncato da un infarto.
