Welcome to Honor Your Truth The “Is It True?” Series Episode Fifty-Seven “Whether the say is blue or grey, there’s something to love in everyday” There is an Old Persian saying that goes something like this….“There was a man who was feeling blue because he had no shoes, until he came upon another man…a man who had no feet.” We call this an ah-ha moment. Yet, the man who had no feet could come upon a man who had no legs, who could come upon a man who had no arms or legs and so on, until the man is merely a head. And even then, the head-type man is more alive, compared to a dead person. There is always someone who “has it worse”. We all suffer. If I am thinking “Wow, at least I don’t have it as bad as that person”, it seems really negative. My thinking that in comparison I have no problems so, “lucky me”, doesn’t bring me anything more than a temporary, “phew”. Being lucky is temporary. True gratitude, gratitude that sticks, never seems to be as much about escaping all pain, as it is about acceptance and knowing how it all fits. Often times the amazing thing that I have witnessed is that someone, who would appear to be in a hopeless situation……a situation so sad, so grave, will often seem to have a peace inside unlike I have ever experienced. They glow…they move me….they warm my heart and teach me something. I aspire to do the same. Gratitude that sticks, that soothes seems to come from acceptance of the suffering and the eventual discovery of a purpose…..a reason for being here. The knowing that my life has meaning, has value, helps me. The knowing that I get to be of service…that I can make someone’s life better…that I can make someone smile, laugh….that I can listen well…..and that I am willing to share my experience.
