In The Cowboy and the Lady, an eccentric young woman (Merle Oberon) is left on her father’s estate to keep her from spoiling his Presidential bid. She attends a rodeo and falls in love with a cowboy (Gary Cooper) to whom she's told that she's a parlor maid who has left home to escape abuse. However, they fall in love and marry soon after and now Mary has a double dilemma: continuing her charade with her cowpoke husband and keeping her marriage a secret from her father.
