ET’s Mark Steines and "Everybody Loves Raymond" star Patricia Heaton made a heartbreaking trip to Sierra Leone in April with Lighthouse Medical Missions. Now they talk about how they had to choke back the emotion at some of what they observed. The focus of the journey was to service two medical clinics (in the towns of Makeni and Kenema) and to attend the dedication of a school in Kenema named for Patty's mother (Patricia Helen Hunt). A team of 38 doctors, nurses, and volunteers, led by Santa Monica pediatrician Dr. Robert Hamilton, accompanied them. The team met with President Ernest Bai Koroma, the first lady, and the U.S. Ambassador while in Freetown, and provided medical services to more than 2,500 men, women, and children in the form of medications, minor surgeries, and treating of wounds.
