Abdominal Hysterectomy w/ Harmonic WAVE Coagulating Shears
http://www.or-live.com/EthiconEndo-Surgery/1879 Houston, TX: Even with the increase in laparoscopic and vaginal hysterectomies, the abdominal hysterectomy remains a common choice for gynecologists. Recent developments in ultrasonic technology are providing the surgeon with new techniques for open gynecologic procedures. On September 11, 2007, at 6:00 pm CDT join surgeons Carl Giesler, MD, Daniel Tobias, MD, and Marcia C. Bowling, MD in a live Internet roundtable presentation on the technical aspects of Harmonic™ technology in performing an abdominal hysterectomy. Dr. Giesler will demonstrate the removal of an 18 cm ovarian mass followed by a total abdominal hysterectomy utilizing the Harmonic WAVE™ coagulating shears. Dr. Giesler, who started using Harmonic™ technology in laparoscopic and open surgical procedures in 1995, teaches advanced laparoscopic skills to residents at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr. Bowling has a full schedule of major abdominal hysterectomies at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, and began using Harmonic™ technology one and a half years ago. Dr. Tobias started using Harmonic™ coagulating shears in laparoscopic cases two years ago. He is now using the technology in open surgeries, which make up about half of his operating schedule at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, New Jersey. Viewers may email questions directly to the surgeons during the program, which will provide for a dynamic clinical interchange between the audience and presenters about surgical techniques.
