Flashpoint is a police show filmed in Canada and is shown on CTV, but it was picked up by CBS to air on primetime television in the United States. This is the 1st show to air on US primetime since Due South.
The show's storyline is loosely based in Toronto, Canada, although there is no mention of the actual city during the show.
Flashpoint is focused on an elite tactical unit within the city's police force. Their name is the SRU which stands for the Strategic Response Unit. They are the people that are called in when there are extreme situations -- hostage situations, bomb threats, and criminals that are heavily armed. Flashpoint brings a human side to the tough job these elite units must perform. The show also tries to explain the mentality of why people feel they need to commit crimes.
The Flashpoint cast is made up of mostly Canadian actors. They include Enrico Colantoni, David Paetkau, and Hugh Dillon to name just a few. Amy Jo Johnson is the only American actress in the show.
