Heroes is a science fiction television drama series that premiered on NBC in September of 2006. It contains short multi-episode story arcs that relate to a larger encompassing one. The first season's run was 23 episodes with about 14.3 million viewers in the United States. For the second season, a total of 24 episodes, there were 13.1 million viewers which made it in the top 20 ranked programs for the 2007-2008 series. The third season premiered on September 22, 2008 and NBC has picked it up for a fourth season.
During Season one an ordinary group of people slowly discovers they have special abilities. The show then goes on to show how these discoveries affect their lives. As they are discovering themselves, another group is investigating the extent of these abilities. Noah Bennet heads a secret organization called "The Company", while Mohinder Suresh continues his father's research into the biological reasoning and causes for these changes. Each of the people coping with their new abilities is drawn into The Company's conspiracy to control them into a race to stop an explosion in New York City that would destroy it.
Season two deals with The Company and its research on the Shanti virus. The "heroes" (people with the special abilities) join to stop the release of the virus and avoid a global pandemic. This season was cut short because of the writers' strike.
Season three which had 25 episodes and begins with a murder attempt on Nathan Petrelli,. Several villains escape and the Company attempts to recapture them. The third season ends with Tracy's ability evolving to allow her to manipulate water further.
