Lost
Airing September 22, 2004 on ABC, the TV series, Lost, premiered. Introducing an intricate ensemble cast, Lost portrays the journey of multiple characters who are stranded on an island in the South Pacific after surviving a plane crash. Moving in real time and past experiences, each episode concentrates on one character as they are on the island and a story line from their past. This strategy has created one of the most complex and detailed story lines ever to be aired.

Hitting the ground running with 16 million viewers their first year, Lost has been the recipient of numerous awards like an Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series in 2005, a Golden Globe for Best Drama in 2006, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Ensemble Cast in 2006.

This ensemble cast began with fourteen main characters to follow; these characters of castaways included an Iraqi Republican Guard named Sayid Jarrah, a pregnant Australian named Claire Littleton, a surgeon and main protagonist of the show named Jack Shephard, a lottery winner who has lost his luck named Hugo "Hurley" Reyes, a former dance teacher named Shannon Rutherford and her brother-in-law, a con man named James "Sawyer" Ford, a daughter of a prominent Korean mobster/business man named Sun-Hwa Kwon and her husband, a fugitive named Kate Austen, an ex-rock star drug addict named Charles Pace, a mysterious character named John Locke, a construction worker named Michael Dawson and his son. This cast has changed considerably throughout the seasons, as characters have died off or new characters have emerged.

Entering its sixth season, Lost has captured audience members of all generations and continues to surprise viewers with unexpected twists and turns. Created by Damon Lindelof, J. J. Abrams and Jeffrey Lieber, the concept of Lost was taken from past show ideas like Survivor, Cast Away, Lord of the Flies, and Gilligan's Island. The shows complexity stems from a supernatural element and "bible" concept that has been interwoven into the characters and plot.

Filming in Oahu, Hawaii, costs for production have been one of the most expensive in television today; luckily, the show has compensated with its amazing mass audience and record making critical and commercial successes. In fact, Lost was the biggest critical and commercial success of the 2004 television season.

As both an industry and audience attraction, Lost has created a web of story lines that even avid watchers have wondered what could possibly happen next. With unfailing surprises and mythical and symbolic elements, Lost is a unique story that offers something for every viewer.
