South Park offers mature audiences a sardonic, sarcastic view of life through the misadventures of four boys in the fictional town of South Park, Colorado. This crudely animated series uses dark humor, shocking topics and biting satire to comment on popular culture. The critically acclaimed show, Comedy Central’s highest-rated program, has won numerous awards, including a Peabody Award and several Primetime Emmys.

The main characters, students at South Park Elementary, include Stan Marsh, the typical, American boy, who spends his time trying to convince town’s adults that they’ve gone overboard. His best friend, Kyle Broflovski, the group’s only Jew, is famous for insightfully stating, “I’ve learned something today,” from which he explains to the townspeople how they have, once again, gone astray. The ultra-evil and super-spoiled Eric Cartman torments Kyle with anti-Semitic remarks and generally provokes the nonsense that the townspeople subject themselves to weekly. Kenny McCormick spent the first five seasons dying a horrible death each episode and returning without explanation. From a poor family, Kenny is the most worldly of the Boys and shares this knowledge freely with his friends. However, his inaudible, muffled voice can only be understood through the power of suggestion and viewers’ own imaginations.

Parents, teachers, classmates and other members of the South Park community are all equally distinctive. Most episodes involve offbeat, ridiculously-hilarious scenarios and conflicts, which are resolved by the end the show. Then, the Boys are back where they started, waiting to thwart, yet another, madcap situation in the sleepy town of South Park.
