President Bush said he thought the economy was slowing down but not headed into a recession. MOREINFO: New data released Thursday showed slow fourth-quarter growth and a bigger-than-expected jump in unemployment claims. Speaker: US President George W. Bush SCRIPT: President George W. Bush said the U.S. economy may be slowing down but it is not headed into a recession. SOUNDBITE: US President George W. Bush, saying (English): "I don't think we are headed into recession but a slowdown." This despite new data showing slow fourth-quarter growth and a bigger-than-expected jump in unemployment claims. Bush, speaking at a White House news conference, also said he didn't think another economic stimulus package was necessary at the moment. SOUNDBITE: US President George W. Bush, saying (English): "Why don't we let stimulus package one have a chance to kick in." In a wide ranging news conference Bush touched on trade policy, national security and domestic spying.
