3 Columbian hostages released
 Source: Mediascrape
Argentina's former President has arrived in Caracas to help the international mission to ensure the safe handover of three Colombian hostages. MOREINFO: The plan to help free the hostages is being orchestrated by the government of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez who has been in direct communication with Manuel Marulanda, the leader of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC. The hostages' family members left Colombia for Venezuela with high hopes of seeing their loved ones sometime in the next few days. SCRIPT: The delight was clear as the families of three hostages set off from Colombia for Venezuela with high hopes of seeing their loved ones. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) MARIA FERNANDA PERDOMO, DAUGHTER OF CONSUELO GONZALES DE PERDOMO HOSTAGE THAT COULD BE FREED BY THE FARC SAYING: "It is incredible, this is a dream came true. I can't wait to tell her I love her and hug her again and thank her for being strong." Maria Fernanda Perdomo's mother is one of three Colombians being held by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, known as FARC. Consuelo Gonzales de Perdomo, a former member of parliament, was kidnapped in 2001. A year later a vice presidential candidate was also taken hostage. Clara Rojas went on to have a son - reportedly with one of her captors - and the young Emmanuel has never seen his grandmother. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) CLARA DE ROJAS, MOTHER OF CLARA ROJAS, HOSTAGE THAT COULD BE FREED BY THE FARC SAYING: "It is incredible, very exciting." Argentina's former President Nestor Kirchner is co-ordinating the release. But the deal was negotiated by Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez, despite warnings by Colombia's leader not to interfere. (SOUNDBITE)(Spanish) FORMER ARGENTINE PRESIDENT NESTOR KIRCHNER SAYING: "I am representing the President and all of the Argentines, to collaborate on something like this that makes us proud in Latin America. It's a chance to rekindle the spirit of peace and tranquility throughout the region." Chavez hopes the release in the next few days will set the stage for further deals, possibly in exchange for jailed Colombian guerrillas. Three American contractors and the French-Colombian journalist Ingrid Betancourt, who was captured with Clara Rojas, are among hundreds or people held by FARC. Sonia Legg, Reuters.
