The Lemon Twist (Alberta Essential)
Duration: 5:05Source: ON Networks
Creating a good-looking - and functional - garnish. Cocktails on the Fly Episode “Lemon Twist” Alberta Straub: Hello, I am here to talk to you about how to make a lemon twist. A lemon twist is a important part of your cocktail repertoire. You don’t want to have a lemon twist made out of some one of those zesters or whatever. It’s nice to have a classic lemon twist for your martini or your sidecar. So I will tell you how to do it and it’s really simple. So all you have to do, is you search around. Hopefully you have a lot of fresh citrus at your house at your disposal. You’re squeezing all your lemons blah blah you’re looking for something that’s a little squishy. Something that you can feel the separation and the lemon peel and inside. This one feels good to me; this one also feels pretty good. Let’s go with this one. And it will be good. You take a nice sharp knife, cut the ends off like so. And then you take your bar spoon. Something very simple you want a nice bar spoon. This is a fancy pants bar spoon. But I typically use just a regular nice round bar spoon. This one works as well, but you just want to try to get in there with the pith. And you want to try to separate the inside of the lemon from the outside of the peel. You just go around in a circle on one side. You don’t want to throw the center away, because you can totally use that for any another cocktail. You just go round and around a little bit. There you go spit that out, blam! Just give it a couple of rounds like this, your just trying to clean it up and get it nice and clean. For your cocktail. There we go. You have to be very gentle because sometimes you can cut right through, and you don’t want to do that because this is a really nice peel. It’s ready to go for your cocktail. And then take a nice sharp knife and you slice it like so. Then you wrap it up as tightly as possible, you have a toothpick or something a little skewer. To secure it as you slice. And you should get about four or five of the twist out if this slice. And then so you get to use these, these look pretty good. You want to wrap it around your finger. Just to get a nice little look going. It’s important, twist have as much appeal at the way they look as they do when there zesting your cocktail. So you have a nice martini like this one I made here. Yum I would like to take a big drink out of that, but first. Edge the glass with your twist. It adds nice flavor. Then you squeeze it over it. You’re looking for the drops of the oil going on top of the liquor, like so. You can see the zest going into the cocktail, and that’s what you don’t get when you make it out of a zester. And then there you go Cheers. That’s how you make a lemon twist. Very simple. To Conclude: Lemon Twist Get a lemon Cut off the ends Seperate the fruit from the peel Scrape away the pith Cut and roll peel Spike and roll with toothpick Slice into ¼” sections Spiral around fingers Twist and Spritz Enjoy! AS: Ok, Pacific southwest airlines have the most fabulous uniforms that I have ever seen on a girl. There so fantastic! They have, they wear red, go go boots. And then they have very short dress that’s red and hot pink and orange. Different bold block colors, very, very, short. Then they don’t have flight bags like regular airline hostesses. They have these gorgeous round hat boxes. And there always named Debby, and Debby and Cindy. They don’t have hats, there just good to go in these outfits. And it’s just fabulous, and I would do anything. I remember when I was in third grade this girl that sat in front of me Debby had these red boots just like these girls, like these airline hostess’s. And I would always stare at these boots like wishing I had red boots like this. And then I discovered PSA airlines, and they not only did they have red boots. They had these fabulous go go dresses. That’s pretty much why I started doing my theme party trip out Tuesdays, so I would be able to wear some outfits like these girls wear. But also it’s about providing extra care service for my guest. And that’s the motto of the united airline hostess. And so I am a flighty hostess. Anyway, I would like to wear a uniform of bold block, hot pink, and orange and red short, with red go go boots. If possible, at all possible. I have pan am on today, but any other time I would like short, very cute, super fabulous. So let’s see I put some vodka in there, then lo la lay umm… Ingredients: Lemon Bar Spoon Toothpick
