Leigh shows how to create a relationship area that will keep guests' stays brief. Fung Shui your Way Episode “Guest Bedroom; Soul Mates” Leigh: Welcome to Fung Shui your way, I am your host Leigh Kubin, and today we are in the home of Victoria and Kevin Schaffer. We will be Fung Shuing there guest bedroom which falls in the relationship area of the bagua. So let get upstairs and see what we have to work with. Victoria: Leigh this is our guest room. Leigh: Wow, this room has a lot of potential. This is the relationship area of the bagua, and what that means is it gives you place to have a commitment outside of yourself. So ideally this would be the master bedroom, but it’s too small. So since this is your guest room we want to create a very comfortable environment for your guest. But we don’t want them to get too comfortable to where they don’t leave. So there are a few things we can do to make them more comfortable, and also remind them that this is your home. The first thing that I see that is wrong with this room is that the bed is in the mouth of chi. So when your guests are laying here in bed, they are going to be hit with energy all night as they sleep. So my first recommendation would be to take this bed and put it in the command position of the room. Victoria: Ok. Leigh: The second thing that I see with this room is that there is a mirror at the foot of the bed. It is very normal for people to think that they should put mirrors at the foot of the bed. But actually it keeps you from sleeping all that well because the energy bounces back and forth on you all night. So when we remove that your guest will have a much nicer night’s sleep. So what we will do is take that down, and we will just find another place for that in the house. And we can put a piece of art up on this wall that will give them a perspective for the day. But again it is going to be your perspective, because we want them to know this is your house. Do you have anything under this bed? Victoria: Yes, I have some boxes of paperwork that I honestly have been meaning to get to for awhile but I just kind of stored it away under there. Leigh: Ok, well whatever we sleep above, is what we absorb. So when your guests come over they are absorbing things that they need to get done, your things. So we want to move that out. Remember no thing is to go under the bed except a treasure box. So we will get that pulled out. And this area is really about the earth. The element that rules this area is the earth. And you have done a great job making this room very earthy. Traditionally the color is pink. But red works, anything with a nutty tone could be used in the earth sector. So the paint is great, the bedspread is perfect. So you have done a really good job with this. Now Victoria, what do you think about the window? Are you up for putting some drapes up? Victoria: Yes, we have actually been discussing what should go up there and I just don’t know at this point. Leigh: I would find something earthy, maybe green; maybe you can pull out one of these colors in the comforter to go up there. It will make the room warm and soften the window. And make for a good night’s sleep. Victoria: Wonderful. Leigh: One thing I want to look at is this area over here. This is actually the wealth area of the bedroom, so what this means is I want you to put things that are special to you and Kevin here in this space. To kind of remind your guest who rules the house, so again not to let them get too comfortable. Victoria: Ok, I can do that. Leigh: Ok so again just some things that are meaningful to you, and also I think a picture of you two would be great there. Victoria: I will do it I will find one. Leigh: Perfect, one of your jobs right now is to find some artwork that you can put in here that has meaning for you and Kevin. So we will take the mirror down, and I think something here in place of the mirror, at their back, and also something on this side to give them a perspective for the day. So your job is to look for those pieces. Victoria: Sounds good. Leigh: Are you ready to get to work? Victoria: I am ready let’s go. Leigh: Ok, let’s go. What do you think? Victoria: Its, it’s absolutely incredible. It looks like and feels like a different room to me. Leigh: Doesn’t it? Can you believe how open it is now that they bed is moved? Victoria: That is what is amazing to me because it feels very open. Leigh: Yeah you have got a lot more space in here. And your guest will sleep so much better. There is nothing under the bed and they are out of the mouth of chi. so tell me about the pictures that you have put up here. Victoria: The photographs that we chose for this room are Native American, Navajo Indian photographs from the late eighteen hundreds. My husband and I bought them at an auction and really loved them, in part because I have two kinds of Native American blood. And they just seemed really special to us. Leigh: I think that is a great representation for you to have in the relationship area, especially since it goes back in your heritage, so good job on that. Tell me about the map. Victoria: The map on the wall that we selected just reminds us that we like to travel and that we do intend to travel to all parts of the map at some point in our lives. Leigh: So what did you find for the wealth corner to kind of make this your room? Victoria: Objects that we put into our personal corner over here, into our wealth corner, are pieces that our children made. Our daughter made the princess and our son made the camel. And they represent for us very special times in our children’s lives. The elephant bells are from my mother, and therefore they represent something very special to us as well. Leigh: Victoria you did a great job in this room. You really made it your won, you came up with some great adjustments and I think your guest will be very comfortable here. But I don’t think they will stay too long. Victoria: That’s the idea, thank you so much Leigh for all of your help. Leigh: Oh you’re welcome and thank you, and for Fung Shui your way, I am Leigh Kubin, and we will see you next time.
