Energy experts are in North Dakota today to talk about cleaner ways to burn coal and be energy efficent. Senator Byron Dorgan is holding a field hearing of a U-S Senate appropriations group. The director of a national energy department lab is among those scheduled to testify, along with energy company officials. Dorgan says he has budgeted more federal money to help expand research in energy production in a more efficient way. (Sen. Byron Dorgan/ D-ND) I've added a substantial amount of addition money above the presidents request for that type of research. Which I think will unlock our opportunity to use lignite coal in the future in a way that enhances our economy and at the same time protects our environment. Dorgan also says work already being done in North Dakota shows promise in trying to capture carbon and using it to produce more energy.
