Eye On Agriculture - Spring Planting Begins
 Source: ClipSyndicate
Spring has arrived early for farmers across much of North Dakota. We haven't even reached the halfway point for the month of April and already some farmers are digging in for the season. (Brian Vendickson, Farms Near Garrison) You get antsy, pretty antsy. You see a neighbor going and you gotta go. Vendickson and his crew were hard at it already north of Garrison on Tuesday putting in peas and wheat in.... (Brian Vendickson, Farms Near Garrison) We started yesterday a little bit trying to seed some barley into some lighter soil that flows better, the heavier soil is so dry it doesn't work. (Shaun Sipma, KX News) Right now for farmers across the region it really is a guessing game do you plant now or wait for moisture. The early planting is going into... well dry soil and farmers are just hoping for rain and hoping that it doesn't take too long. (Brian Vendickson, Farms Near Garrison) You see how dry it is and just kind of think man should I even be out there, but hopefully if we get something on Wednesday that would be really good. However the talk of moisture is once again deteriorating for the northern portion of the state but that hasn't altered planting plans for Vendickson The talk of moisture Thursday is giving farmers hope, but hope won't make their crops grow what they need it rain... or at this point they would even take moisture in the form of snow. (Brian Vendickson, Farms Near Garrison) I guess I'm just trying to seed an inch, inch and a half deep and hopefully it rains on it because if you seed to moisture I don't know if it will come up. One positive thing right now though is it's early. Spring planting doesn't usually start until mid to late April in this part of the state and all it will take will be a few showers to put planting into gear and give crops a good start. (Brian Vendickson, Farms Near Garrison) We're able to go so I guess whenever you're able to go you want to but I would rather just sit and watch it rain.
