A museum that stands on columns of paper opened in mid-September in Seoul's Olympic Park. The Papertainer Museum, designed by renowned Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, consists of 353 paper columns and 166 cargo containers. Seoul's publishing house and cultural contents group Design House organised this papertainer project to celebrate its 30th anniversary. The company says "papertainer" is a combined word of paper and container, symbolising the facts: "paper is eco-friendly and recyclable and containers can move arts all around." A Design House official proudly explained the special characteristics of the museum. "Paper is material that is easy for people to be curious about and can easily peak interest. Also, building this kind of architecture itself is more of a big event and people can enjoy watching the pillars and ceilings," said Jeon Sa-sop. Visitors were amazed with the fact that everything had been made of paper and containers. "I think making the museum out of containers and paper is a fresh and new idea and it makes it fun," said Choi Kyung-been. Some visitors were wondering whether it would be safe from water or fire. The secret of safety is with "density of paper." "A lot of people are worried about when it rains. The density of this paper is very high, so it is perfectly waterproof.
