Democrats Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were locked in a near dead heat on Sunday (February 3), two days before the biggest presidential voting so far while John McCain tried to nail down the Republican nomination for the White House. With 24 states holding nominating contests on Tuesday, the candidates spent their Sundays campaigning across the country as polls showed the two races going in opposite directions. Celebrity talk show host Oprah Winfrey and musician Stevie Wonder rallied voters in support of Obama, alongside Caroline Kennedy and Obama's wife Michelle in Los Angeles. "I would never vote for anyone based on gender or race. I'm voting for Barack Obama not because he's black, I'm voting for him because he's brilliant," said Winfrey. "I see a time when we will have a united people of the United States and that is why I support Barack Obama," said Wonder, before singing Obama's name. The Democratic race, which Clinton once led handily, had narrowed to a nearly a draw in recent national polls. Obama held a slight lead in California and was virtually tied with Clinton in New Jersey and Missouri -- three states voting on "Super Tuesday" -- in a Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released on Sunday.
