MILWAUKEE - The teenager who was attacked and beaten on a Milwaukee County bus says classmates ganged up on him because they didn't like his clothes. The 15-year-old boy is a student at St. Charles School. He says the day of the beating, he tried to avoid the other boys, by not riding his regular bus home. Instead, he rode the county bus to get away from them, but says they followed and attacked him. The boy, whose name we aren't using at his mother request, says he was kicked and punched in the head by several fellow students on the way home from school last week. "I just thought if I didn't say nothing, nothing would happen, but eventually they just surrounded me," the boy said. Surveillance video shows the gang of boys taking turns beating him. The video of the beat down is shocking enough, but the reason for it is even more disturbing. "They kept ripping my clothes. To me, I got pretty nice clothes, but to them, they just kept ripping me about how I dress and stuff," the boy said. TODAY'S TMJ4's Heather Shannon asked, "So this is all just because they didn't like the way you dressed?" "Yeah, pretty much," the boy said. The boy is recovering from the beating. "Since this happened, he complained of headaches a lot, his stomach, his chest," the boy's mother Tina said. The surveillance video also shows a woman, and several other people not involved. Tina thinks one of them should have helped her son. "Somebody on that bus had a cell phone. So somebody could have called the police," Tina said. The boy wasn't in school Thursday, but Tina says he will go back. "They're not going to stop him from getting an education. He's 15 years old, and he needs an education," Tina said. The boy says he would definitely feel safe riding the bus again, but Tina says no way. "I got a vehicle. Everywhere he go, I'll be taking him," Tina said. The school says they will put a security guard on the bus every day for the rest of the school year to make sure this doesn't happen again. The school is also meeting with county officials to come up with a permanent solution for next year.
