John McCain Town Hall Pemberton, NJ TRANSCRIPT: JOHN MCCAIN:"Most of Baghdad, Basra now are under government and Iraqi military control. Not under, uh, uh—Iraqi military control. Not American control but support of American military. The Maliki government is functioning effectively. Do they have a long way to go? Yes. Is it long and hard and tough? Yes. But I want to guarantee you there is a dramatic difference between me and Sen. Obama. Sen. Obama said that he wanted to withdraw a long time ago. That would have been chaos, genocide, a wider war and we would have been back. He said the surge couldn't work, and wouldn't work. And to this day, to this very day, Sen. Obama refuses to acknowledge that we are winning in Iraq. He refuses. He called it spin. Is Gen Petraeus spinning the American people?" AUDIENCE: "No!" MCCAIN: "I don't think so. I don't think so. So I think the point is here, that we have a stark choice between doing what Sen. Obama wants to do which is a wider war, greater chaos in the region and encouragement of the Iranians to continue their activities which, as we know, are a great threat to peace and stability in the world. They are exporting, still, into Iraq, the most lethal explosive devices which are killing young Americans and that w—is the consequence of the course that Sen. Obama wanted to pursue. And, my friends, we are succeeding, we are winning. The benefits of the peace, the benefits of the peace means that our American troops come home. But they don't come home in defeat. They come home with honor, with victory . . ." LABEL: JM NJ 6-13 (GR#89) XYKFCS - Clip E If you'd like to acquire a high resolution version of this clip, email progressivemedia@gmail.com.
