Former Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif was arrested and deported to Saudi Arabia on Monday (September 10) within hours of arriving home from exile vowing to end the rule of President Pervez Musharraf. The Supreme Court said last month Sharif had the right to return and the government should not try to stop him. Sharif's supporters said they would fight the government in the courts and politically. Waving flags with pictures of Sharif inscribed on them, scores of Tehreek-i-Insaaf (Movement for Justice) workers took to the streets of Islamabad, chanting: "Go, Musharraf, go." Tehreek-i-Insaaf leader Imran Khan, ace cricketer turned politician, was the first to rally to the battle cry saying Musharraf was deluding himself if he thought the United States could save him from the wrath of the nation. "And, general Musharraf, if you think that by sending Nawaz Sharif to Saudia Arabia you can save your skin, you better stop fooling yourself. Neither can America save you, nor can Benazir (Bhutto) save you, nor the Q-league (ruling party) turncoats," Khan said in his address to the rally. "Insha Allah (God willing) the entire Pakistani nation is going to rise up against you, and we will fight you in the streets," he added to chants of "Insha Allah" (God willing).
