Weekly Video Address for August 17, 2007
Duration: 1:27Source: iTunes
The beauty of Florida’s natural environment is unmatched. To preserve this beauty, we are leading the way in addressing global climate change. This week I appointed the Action Team on Energy and Climate Change. During the next few months the team will recommend ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and diversify our energy resources. More than 70 percent of Florida’s electricity is generated by fossil fuels, which contribute to our state’s carbon emissions.  Here in Florida, we plan to pursue renewable solar energy sources as well as wind and alternative energy – including ethanol and hydrogen. By diversifying, we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect you – the consumer – from volatile fuel prices.Because there is gold in green, the action team will work to generate strategic investments and public-private partnerships to spur economic development. By appointing diverse stakeholders to represent you, the people of Florida, we will create a comprehensive Energy and Climate Change Action Plan, which will include recommendations for proposed legislation in 2008. We must wisely use our resources and protect our environment – so that future generations can enjoy them as we do today.  We have a responsibility to be good stewards of our natural resources. No place is more beautiful than our Florida. May God bless you and the great State of Florida.  And always be mindful – get a plan be ready in the event that hurricanes may come to our state. Thank you very much and God Bless.
