Dorgan Speaks About Rising Gas Prices
 Source: ClipSyndicate
Gas Prices in Bismarck-Mandan made another jump today. Regular Unleaded gasoline is now selling for three dollars and fifty-nine cents a gallon. So what does this mean for you and the state of North Dakota as we head into the busy summer travel season. Brad Feldman has the story. (Sound - car) It's not quite here yet... (Sound - car) But in a month many people will be hitting the road to go whereever they can for fun. (Terry Harzinski/ Bismarck-Mandan CVB) People are not going to not take some kind of vacation. They might take a chorter vacation, take a vacation closer to home. (Sound - opening cap) It's the pain at the pump. (Sound taking nozzel off machine) That has many people rethinking their vacation plans. (Sound - starting to fill) (Sen. Byron Dorgan/ D-ND) We need to work to put downward pressure on gas prices. This is a ridiculous situation. Senator Byron Dorgan says the plan announced last week by fellow Senator John McCain to have a holiday on the federal gas tax might have a short term benefit to you at the pump. (Sen. Byron Dorgan/ D- ND) He wants to borrow money to have a gas tax holiday. What I would like to do is have a holiday for some of these major integrated oil company profits. Dorgan says another problem is the amount of oil the nation puts in reserves. He says each day about seventy thousand barrels of oil is put underground in this country in case of an emergency. (Sen. Byron Dorgan/ D-ND) That puts upward pressure on gas prices. We ought to do exactly the opposite and put downward pressure on the gas prices. However, with no relief in site... you continue to stomach the pain. (Sound - pump stops) (Wendy Howe/ Minot CVB) People are not going to stop driving and they are not going to stop traveling. I think they are just going to do it in different ways. Brad Feldman KX News Howe and Harzinski both said they expect more people from Canada to visit the area this summer. They mentioned the gas prices in Canada are still lower that here in North Dakota.
